Need_umbrella! Repose that Detests Even Good Luck ~ Need Umbrella!

This is the opening song, huh.
I gave it an atmosphere that isn't in any other song I've made.
It's dark and creepy, but also full of energy.
I don't know why, but strangely it feels like only the tension is raised.
Only the opening is excited, the main part is crestfallen.
It could have been anything I wanted, but...
Well regardless, even the parts I worked on quickly turned out reasonably well too, I think?

Stage 1 theme
損いのない功徳 ~ go_to_work...? Unfailing Piety ~ Go To Work...?

The stage one theme.
This is the first time that the main characters are going to work in Mugenri,
and so I tried to express the feeling of them going forth recklessly but with splendor.
Anyways it seems it has just a little bit of tension,
so perhaps it's perfect for a stage one theme.
You shouldn't wait expecting people to do pious acts for you, by the way.

Stage 1 Boss - Jun Amanomiya's theme
Crimson Boots

This is the theme of the youkai that makes it rain.
Her words, and this song, seem a bit dignified,
but she really isn't important at all. Her boots aren't even crimson!
She'll live a pretty long life, but I'm sure she's still in her teens now.
I feel like I'm still a teenager myself. (Well then stop drinking all that booze!)
Making such fast paced songs is really fun!

Stage 2 theme
Deep Waiver

Without getting lost, I once again imagined the lost woods.
For one of my songs, it's really calmed down, really mellow.
Maybe it's a little jazzy? I made it more or less impromptu.
I love both jazz and fusion,
so I really want to make more melodies like this!
I've really come to like it even more than I thought I would.

Stage 2 Boss - Shou Amanomori's theme
Act_the_FOOL_HAHAHA Slimy Umisoumen ~ Act the FOOL HAHAHA[1]

HAHAHAHA!

This is the theme of the pseudo-slug.
I meant to make it a lighthearted song, especially the title.
Hey look here! This is really a masterpiece! HAHAHA!
Back to topic, isn't it a really idiotic sounding song? Although it's also really Japanese.
Or maybe it's actually really Celtic?
I love Irish music too.
I really hate escargot. Throw the salt! The salt!

Stage 3 theme
KEEP_IN Lost the Way Home ~ KEEP IN

The subject of the song is the overall atmosphere of Mugenri.
I think you can probably tell that I based the song on the motif of a certain other song.
I originally had several ideas of how it should be, but I didn't know what to do and so it ended up gloomy like this.
So reversely let's live and go forward with positive thoughts♪
Even people who were spirited away, must be doing well somewhere, right?
I put those feelings into it, and made this song for a certain someone.
It would be nice if that person didn't get eaten by youkai, though.
In this respect too, I'm worried about having based this on that certain other song.

Stage 3 Boss - Lumen Celeritas's theme
Prismic Axel

This is the theme of the idiot hero.
I made it with 100% rhythm and nothing else.
Because of that it feels like it took no time at all to make.
The song crudely changes it's intensity, and it forcibly goes forward,
and with that I was able to pin down the front and back, and express Lumen very well.
I've only come to think so looking back on it, but I really do believe it.
But is making songs really like this? (Numerous rebuttals)

Stage 4 theme
What's_the_matter? Lick the Bran to Reach the Rice ~ What's the Matter?

This is the stage four theme.
It's only the mid game but this is a really hurried song.
The tension heightens all of a sudden part way through the stage, but what's the matter?
...Thus, the title of the song. (That's mostly a lie, though.)
Now, everyone sing together!
La, la-lala, la→la↑la↓♪
La, la-lala, la→la↑la↓♪

...Master Yupa!?[2]

Stage 4 Boss - Hibaru Kokutenshi's theme
Dirt Cheap Money Builder

This is the stage four boss theme... or is it?
It's Hibaru's theme, but somehow it seems strangely cool.
Yet I wonder if it wouldn't be more fitting for an extra stage boss?
Well if you consider Hibaru's true power then perhaps it's fitting.
Anyways it seems like a drunken song, but it's not like I was drinking while making it.
Maybe it's because of a certain trumpet?

The smile is perfect, and the creepiness leaves nothing to be desired.
With her alone I won't do any borrowing of ideas or motifs.
Since I don't want to become like the eyes of the four sacred beasts on her back.

She's looking for a kirin next. (Well, only the eyes.)

Stage 5 theme
Radical History ~ Memories Affixed to Eyes

This is the stage five theme.
I tried making it with an image of haniwa.[3]
What sort of song would a haniwa's theme be in this world?
It's the great haniwa march, and it's full of energy!
Ha-ni-wa, haniwa, Ha-ni-wa, haniwa, Ha-ni-wa, haniwa, Ha-ni-wa, haniwa♪
Ha-ni-wa, haniwa, Ha-ni-wa, haniwa, Ha-ni-wa, haniwa, Ha-ni-wa, haniwa♪

You see, you've gradually come to hear it too, haven't you?

Stage 5 Boss - Sukune Katano's theme
End_of_immolation Haniwa Sumo ~ End of Immolation

This is the stage five boss Sukune Katano's theme.
This is actually an arrangement of a song I made a long time ago.
(The name of the song before I arranged it was "Haniwa")
Both the song and Sukune have a dark side beneath their cuteness, perhaps this is a kind of gap moe?[4]
I enjoy lots of songs that are like a certain pink black hole.[5]
So I've come to really like Sukune, especially the fact that she's a haniwa.
Don't you ever experience feelings of enchantment towards these sorts of historical objects? They're things that can only be imagined, after all.
I really love haniwa. It'd be great to make one myself someday.

Stage 6 theme
Eternal Sleep, Passing Instant

This is the stage six theme.
Yes, it's a short stage so the song is also short.
During the stage it suddenly becomes grandeur,
but Sukune's appearance here really isn't anything grand. (I know that for a fact)
It's a song that binds together the distant past and future...
...Or at least that's what I was going for.
Behold the resurrection of Tasouken!

Stage 6 Boss - Adagumo no Yaorochi's theme
Mow_Down! Below a Deep Vanishing Cloud ~ Mow Down![6]

This is the theme of the final boss, Adagumo no Yaorochi.
It's... really long...
I think it won't even reach the second loop in-game.
Because it's so long, you can't necessarily tell which part is the climax,
so I'll just let the listener think of their favorite part as the climax.
Although Yaorochi is very dignified, you can also glimpse an immature part of her.
It's because all the characters are idiots, even her. Look, she doesn't even have enough tails.

"I'll mow you all down!"
"...Master Yupa!?"

So it's this melody again.

Anyways Yaorochi's slash must be extremely powerful.
(Although that's only when she has "the sword")

Stage 6 Hidden Boss - Tasouken's theme
A Single Glimmer

This is the theme of the hidden boss, Tasouken.
It's a song where you can hear it going to meet someone carrying a bouquet of flowers without spreading them too widely.
but I wonder just how many people will actually hear this song in-game?
Well if you really try for it on easy mode it's not that bad. (Probably)
By the way I developed the secret boss because of this song.
I was like "It sure would be cool to make a theme for the sword too!"
It was hard trying to match the danmaku with the song's timing.

If there's slowdown then it desynchs and everything, it's really awful... Agh...

Anyways, this is for those people who managed to hear this in-game.
Thank you so much for working so hard to play through to the end!
(Or maybe you're the one guy who ends up hearing it on his first try...)

Extra Stage theme
The Snow-colored View that Buries the Instant

This is the extra stage theme.
It's transient, fragile, unsteady, and unapproachable.
Snow has that sort of image. Maybe because it's cold. It's real cold.
It's a fantastic song, but because I was rushed while making it,
there are some parts I'm not entirely satisfied with. (I was so hurried because of the oncoming Winter.)

By the way, what kind of sound does snow make?
It makes a squeaking sound when you walk on it,
and it makes a crunching sound when you step on a lot of it,
and it makes a hitting sound when you throw a snowball at someone,
or something like that.

Extra Stage Boss - Adagumo no Saragimaru's theme
Ironic_FATE Mono Eye ~ Ironic FATE

This is the theme of the extra boss, Adagumo no Saragimaru.
Somehow it doesn't seem like a theme fitting the extra stage, or even a shooting game.
Be a good kid and go switch it with the stage four boss theme!
Back on topic, to me it feels really refreshing,
but at the end the melody changes completely.
It's like it opens it's eyes to the truth, or something.
Thus the song has two climaxes. Good work Gima-chan! It's a two-for-one special!

About the song title, "Mono Ai". It's fun to imagine what different things it could mean.
It could refer to her "single eye",
or maybe it's more like her "great love" of Yaorochi?
There are probably more interpretations than that too.

People who live by embracing contradictions, of course have dual-sided natures themselves.
In this story full of idiots, finally someone with common sense has appeared!

Ending theme
Routine_eventually Farce of the Sword-Fighting Actors ~ Routine Eventually

It's the ending theme.
Yes, it's short.
That's just how it is. Because it's human. Because it's youkai.
It's a little heartwarming,
even though the story's climax was a little intense.
I wonder if all you players were able to understand...
Well, in short, everyone was just being stupid.

Stupid-stupid, stupid-stupid, stupid-stupid♪

...Right? Can't you hear it?

Staff Roll theme
Stream_VISION Alleyway of Overcoming Unfounded Fears ~ Stream VISION[7]

It's the song that plays during the staff role.
Ah, so it's all over...
Now all the pressure is off your back.
"So in the end what happened to the sword? Was it a bottle opener? Or a sacred treasure? Or just a blunt sword?
I don't even care, I haven't a clue what happened."
"Even if a relic of the past can see the future, it can't walk forward toward it.
Our eyes are far too clouded to see into the future.
Because all this time we've been living disconnected and in idleness."
"Well who cares about any of that? Let's go home and drink sake."

Yabusame and her friends spent their days in such a manner.

As long as the number of staff doesn't increase, these songs will never get any longer.
That's the only part of the future I can see clearly.

Notes[]

  1. Umisoumen is a Japanese dish made out of the eggs of a sea hare.
  2. This appears to be a reference to the character from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
  3. Haniwa are iconic clay figures from ancient Japan.
  4. Gap moe is an anime term referring to an attractive trait of a character that is contradictory to their normal behavior.
  5. This is probably a reference to Kirby.
  6. Adagumo, or vanishing cloud, is Yaorochi's family name. It refers to the concept of ephemerality, giving the impression of a cloud that disappears as soon as you reach out to touch it.
  7. kuchinawa naki (朽縄啼き), literally "shrieking at rotted ropes", is a reference to the Japanese saying hebi ni kamarete kuchinawa ni ojiru(蛇に噛まれて朽縄に怖じる), or "To be bitten by a snake and from then on be afraid of rotted ropes". The saying refers to people who are overly scared or cautious because of a single bad experience with something.
