Fujiwara no Iyozane (藤原 伊代真 Fujiwara no Iyozane) is an ambitious boatman that wants to become a pirate. Currently, they are serving Taira no Fumikado and wants to become their chief advisor.
Concept[]
Iyozane is likely based on Fujiwara no Sumitomo, a famous pirate in the Heian era.
Background Information[]
Apparently Iyozane used to work carrying baggage and letters, but one day strange ferryboat had arrived to the Gloomy Straits and the customers almost disappeared since. Consequently the number of people in this job started to decrease too and Iyozane took the job because they had no choice. They also wanted to be a pirate, but had to give up on their dream.
When Taira no Fumikado travelled to Mugenri in order to escape from assassins, they decided to cross the Gloomy Straits when they met the boatman Iyozane. The latter tried to break the ice and make conversation by telling about their story which concluded with Iyozane playing the flute for their. After that, they learned each other's names and realized that they belonged to enemy families, but at that point it didn't mattered anymore. Fumikado explained that soon a big hole will open in the internal side of Mugenri's barrier, and lots of spirits will enter the barrier. They decided to work together, Fumikado giving their a replica of a youkai tool, the "twig", so Iyozane could be able to control the spirits and guide them to their.

Their full name is Fujiwara no Iyozane (藤原 伊代真). Their last name Fujiwara (藤原, lit. "Wisteria field") is an actual and a common surname used in Japan - it should be noted that while this is one of the evidence which proves the political influence of the Fujiwara Clan, there are some Fujiwaras that aren't related to the Fujiwara Clan.
